Sacred and secular choral works by Gesualdo, Monteverdi, Grieg, Parry, and others

Making their CCMS debut, “the world’s reigning male chorus” (New Yorker) presents a program inspired by global travel entitled Trade Winds.

    Trade Winds
Sultry and seductive, guiding us to exotic places, the Trade Winds have always been a part of the world’s history, urging explorers on. Gentle winds accompany the folkloric beauties of music from Pacific Islands such as Hawaii, Samoa and New Zealand. Robust and carefree music old and new comes from the seafaring peoples of Europe.

We revisit the attachment to China, we owe to composer Chen Yi, with a brand new work by Zhou Tian, setting Chinese poetry and John Masefields eponymous poem. Chanticleer's foundational repertoire of early music will be handsomely represented by music of the sea and the spheres by Monteverdi, Gesualdo, Victoria, and, for the first time Portuguese composer Filipe de Magalhaes.

Plymouth Curch, UCC, 2860 Coventry Road, Shaker Heights 44120

    Pre-concert lecture @ 6:30 PM: TBD
